Three tourism entrepreneurs got together and decided to change the fortunes of their region economically. Matjhabeng Local Municipality region is previously known as the Orange Free State goldfields, is home to the most prolific goldmines the world has ever seen.
From the early 1990’s gold mining industry has steadily been in decline, this prompted the municipality to declare the tourism sector as the primary sector that will be utilised for future economic development and growth in the region.
Matjhabeng Destination Management Organisation is registered as an NPC (Non-Profit Company)and it aims to partner with tourism entrepreneurs in the region to develop vibrant tourism sector and diversify economic value chains.
Mission
To become one of the most effective destination management companies in South Africa. To contribute significantly to the development of the tourism economy and tourism industry in Matjhabeng.
Vision
In partnership with local tourism businesses, to attract and retain atleast 2 million tourists annually by 2030 into the Matjhabeng Local Municipality geographic area.
